Squarespace: Setting up Shipping for Fulfilment.

Setting up Shipping for Squarespace Fulfilment.

This how-to guide will configure your Squarespace store to sell Live Ink products to anyone, anywhere in the world.

How postage is calculated on Squarespace

Although Squarespace has two methods for handling shipping costs for your customers: flat rate and weight-based, at Live Ink, we calculate all shipping costs based on the weight only.

This means you should always select 'Depending on Weight' to calculate your shipping costs. If you'd like to offer any promotions like free shipping, then feel free to do that; however, this won't follow our own shipping costs, so it won't be covered in this guide.

Assigning weight values to your Squarespace products

Before adding shipping rates, you should double-check the weight values of your products to make sure that orders will be charged the correct amount.

If you export products from our website, then the weights should already be correct. However, if you're linking existing products, then you will need to follow the next steps carefully.

Currently, it is not possible to bulk edit product weights, and each product has to be checked one by one.

To edit the weight

Navigate to your Commerce dashboard > Click Inventory > Select the product you'd like to edit, > Select Classic Editor in the top right corner.
Click Pricing & Variants, > Check the Weight column. If any of the weights aren't correct, update them here.

If your Squarespace product page doesn't already have the correct weights, don't worry! You can follow the weights from our shipping table to update this for each variant.

For example, a hoodie is 200g, so you should enter 0.2kg. Follow this table for other weights:

products

We recommend checking this for every product, to make sure the product weights are set. Once you've checked your first product, click the right arrow to move on to the next product and repeat! Press Save once you're done.

Creating your Squarespace Shipping Rates

From the dashboard, click Commerce > Shipping.
At the top of this page, you'll see the 'Shipping' heading. This is where we'll populate the methods available to your customers when checking out through your store.
Click 'Add Shipping Option' to begin setting up the rates for the first region. > Select Depending On Weight, because our shipping methods vary depending on the order weight. > Select the tab Shipping Zones to specify which zones this rate will be applied to, > Type in 'United Kingdom'.

Return to the Formula tab, and we can add your first shipping option to the UK region.

Which option you add here varies depending on which service you'd like to use. This example uses Royal Mail 48 Tracked, but the process will remain the same for others, though you are not obliged to offer all of them.

Each of the fields in this window are important for different reasons:

Option Name

This is what your customers will see, but it also needs to contain a specific keyword for our system to recognise the shipping method.
Enter 'Royal Mail 48 Tracked', or '48 Tracked'.

Weight Ranges

The minimum & maximum weight of the order, so the rate you're creating will apply to orders within this range. This is where the weight values assigned to each product come into play. Any combination of products will fall into one of these weight brackets.

We'll create a rate for each weight bracket available under every shipping method. The first weight range should have a minimum weight of 0kg and a maximum weight of 0.1kg.

Cost

We'll fill this field with the price you pay Live Ink, but you can charge as much or as little as you like for each rate. If you want to offer free shipping for any specific rates, leave it at £0.00.
For Royal Mail 48 Tracked, enter £2.35.

Add the remaining weight ranges

Click '+' to add a range.

The second weight range is 0.11 - 0.69. This ensures that orders weighing over 100g but under 700g will only be shown this rate at checkout.

Currently, in Squarespace, it isn't possible to set a maximum weight, and we'll need to include the higher rate for orders weighing over 700g, despite this being shipped using DPD courier.

The final rate, 0.7kg and up, should be set to £11.99.

We've completed our first shipping rate! Now any orders using Royal Mail 48 Tracked in the UK will automatically have the shipping rate calculated at checkout.
Click 'Save' to apply the changes.

The next step is to set up each individual rate based on weight and destination, following the same steps that we just used to add Royal Mail 48 Tracked.

When adding the rates, it’s important to ensure your shipping rates include the correct keywords for each shipping method.

Our system looks for keywords when an order is received from your Squarespace store, and to avoid mistakes, these keywords should be used in the name of each shipping method: Rate name

The rate name will appear on the checkout to your customers. This also needs to include specific keywords to link in with our system.

Test your shipping methods

At this stage, it's a good idea to add some products to your basket to see what the shipping rates come to. Test different product combinations and shipping destinations, too; you want to make sure your store is calculating rates correctly.

After this step, your shipping rates should perfectly match ours. Your store will now charge your customer shipping in the same way that LiveInk charges you for shipping your orders.
