How Etsy print on demand works with Live Ink

Connect your Etsy shop

Open your free Live Ink account, choose the Etsy integration, sign in to Etsy and click Allow Access. Make sure your Etsy billing details are filled in, as Etsy needs them before products can be exported to your shop.

Set up your brand profile

Add your shop name, logo and return address. Every order includes a free packing slip with your social handles and a thank-you message or discount code. You can also add printed neck labels for £1.50 + VAT per item.

Add your shipping profiles

Etsy charges postage at a fixed price per item, so you create one shipping profile per weight bracket, such as 100g for t-shirts and 200g for hoodies, using our rates. Your buyers then cover the postage at checkout.

Create new listings or link existing ones

Upload your artwork to our organic garments, set your price, sizes and colours, then click Export to Etsy. Already have listings? Link them to our garments instead and we'll fulfil every linked variant.

What happens when an Etsy order is received?

  • ✓A buyer checks out on your Etsy shop and the order reaches your Live Ink account automatically, tagged ‘created’. Any variant you've linked to one of our garments is picked up, so check every size and colour is linked.
  • ✓The fulfilment and shipping costs are automatically deducted from the credits in your account and the order is tagged ‘paid’ so it can move seamlessly into production.
  • ✓We print or embroider the order, add your branded packing slip and ship it in a fully recyclable paper mailer bag. UK orders go Royal Mail 24 Tracked (DPD over 700g) and international orders go by tracked service. The order is tagged ‘shipped’.
  • ✓Your buyer receives a tracking number, and the order in your Etsy Shop Manager updates to match.

FAQ

Etsy & eco-friendly print on demand FAQs

How do I connect my Etsy shop to Live Ink?
Create a free Live Ink account, choose the Etsy integration, sign in to your Etsy account when prompted and click Allow Access. Then add your billing address to your Live Ink profile. We only use it to avoid order delays and never store card details.
Why can't I export products to my Etsy shop?
Etsy requires your shop to be fully active, with billing information entered in your Etsy account, before any app can export listings to it. Add your billing details on Etsy, then try the export again.
Do I create new listings in Live Ink or link my existing Etsy listings?
Either. To create new listings, upload your artwork onto our organic garments, add a title, description and price, pick your sizes and colours, then click Export to Etsy. To keep listings you already have, use Link Products to match each Etsy size and colour to one of our garments and upload your print file.
Can I export a listing as a draft?
Yes. Untick Published before you click Export to Etsy and the listing is saved as a draft in your shop, ready for you to add photos and check before it goes live. To change a print file or price later, edit the product under Manage Products in the Live Ink app so everything stays in sync.
What artwork files do I need?
Upload print files at 300dpi at the size you want them printed. If different colours need different artwork, for example white ink on black shirts, you can upload a separate file for each variant.
Will my Etsy orders sync automatically?
Yes, for every variant you've linked. When a buyer checks out, the order reaches Live Ink automatically and moves into production. Only linked variants are fulfilled automatically, so check each listing shows a 100% green bar in the Link Products list.
When does an Etsy order go into production?
As soon as it's paid for. The production and postage cost is taken from the credits in your Live Ink account, so keep enough credit topped up and each order moves straight into production.
Do you charge commission or subscription fees?
No. Live Ink takes 0% commission on your sales and charges no subscription or signup fees. You pay only the fixed price for the garment, print or embroidery, and postage. Etsy charges its own listing, transaction and payment processing fees separately.
How do I set up shipping rates on Etsy?
Etsy charges postage at a fixed price per item plus a price for each additional item, rather than by weight. Create one shipping profile per weight bracket, for example 100g for t-shirts and 200g for hoodies and sweatshirts, using our current rates, then assign the matching profile to each listing. You can offer free delivery instead, as long as your product price covers the postage.
Which delivery services do Etsy orders use?
UK orders ship by Royal Mail 24 Tracked, or DPD for parcels over 700g. Orders to Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world ship by tracked international services. Every order ships in a plastic-free, fully recyclable paper mailer from our Bristol facility.
Can I use my own branding on Etsy orders?
Yes. Every order includes a free packing slip with your logo, social handles and a thank-you message or discount code. You can also replace the garment's own label with a printed inside neck label for £1.50 + VAT per item. Neck labels aren't available on every product, such as baby and children's items or hoodies with thick seams. Set up your brand profile before you create or link products so you can assign it straight away.
Is print on demand allowed on Etsy?
Yes, as long as you create the designs yourself. Etsy asks you to list any production partner, so add Live Ink as a production partner in your Etsy shop settings and select it on each print on demand listing.
Who handles returns?
You do. Live Ink doesn't process returns, so add your own return address to your brand profile. It appears on your packing slips so buyers know where to send items.
What certifications do your inks and garments have?
Our inks are GOTS certified, and we hold OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT, CPSIA and AATCC compliance. Garments come from organic and sustainable ranges including Stanley/Stella, Earth Positive and AS Colour.
